About The Rusty Putter

Picture
The Rusty Putter Bar & Grill was created to serve as a gathering place for the Glen Brook golfing community and the residents of Stroud Township and surrounding areas. Our goal is simple: to provide good food, friendly service, and a comfortable atmosphere where people want to stay, connect, and return often.

Serving golfers is central to who we are. We believe a round at Glen Brook shouldn’t end on the 18th green, and we’re committed to offering a place where golfers can relax, share a meal or a drink, and continue the camaraderie that makes the game special.

At the same time, The Rusty Putter is designed to be a neighborhood restaurant — family-friendly, approachable, and open to everyone. Our menu focuses on well-executed comfort food designed to pair naturally with a round of golf or a relaxed night out. Whether you’re stopping in for a casual dinner, taking the family out, or meeting friends for a night at the bar, we want every guest to feel comfortable and welcome.

Community Tradition

Our vision is to operate a restaurant that works in harmony with Glen Brook Golf Club and the surrounding community. We focus on consistency, value, and hospitality, creating an environment that supports everyday dining as well as special occasions.

The Rusty Putter is a place where the community comes together beyond regular service. From casual gatherings and seasonal activities to private celebrations and fundraisers, we take pride in hosting events that feel personal, relaxed, and thoughtfully supported.

We see ourselves not just as operators of a restaurant, but as stewards of a space with deep local roots... committed to honoring its history while keeping it active, welcoming, and relevant today.

Colonel Stroud's Historic House

Now (above) and then (below)... The building that houses The Rusty Putter has been a gathering place for this community for more than 230 years across four different centuries.
Picture
Built in the 1790s, this stone farmhouse was constructed by Colonel Jacob Stroud, a Revolutionary War officer and the founder of Stroudsburg, for his eldest son, John Stroud. At the time, the property was part of the Stroud family’s working farmland and reflected the early settlement and agricultural life of the region.

Through marriage and inheritance, the property passed to the Kerr family in the early 19th century. John Stroud’s daughter, Ellen Stroud, married Joseph Kerr in 1816, and by 1817 the property became part of Stroud Township. For much of the 1800s, the land was widely known as the Kerr Farm, worked by successive generations of the Kerr family, including Joseph and Lelia Michaels Kerr, who continued farming the property into the late 19th century.

In 1924, local businessmen purchased the former Kerr Farm and established Glen Brook Country Club, enclosing the original front porch of the farmhouse and building an 18-hole golf course around it. Rather than being replaced, the historic stone house was preserved and adapted as the clubhouse — a role it has served for more than a century. In 2005, Stroud Township purchased the Glen Brook property, ensuring the continued preservation of this important local landmark.

Today, the original Stroud-built farmhouse remains at the heart of Glen Brook Golf Club. Now home to The Rusty Putter Bar & Grill, the clubhouse stands as one of the few remaining links to Stroudsburg’s earliest days — a tangible connection between the region’s founding families and the community gathering place enjoyed today.
